Non-Surgical Neck Lift in Edmonton: Procedure and Benefits

Did you know that your neck is one of the first body parts to show aging signs? It's easy to forget about this area during our skincare routine and, often, we end up not applying any moisturizer or SPF on the area. As a result, we start to notice the dreaded turkey neck showing.

Fortunately, having to go under the knife to fix problems like this is a thing of the past. Nowadays, there are nonsurgical options that can be done quickly, with fast results and little to no downtime.

Keep reading as we explain the nonsurgical neck lift and go through some of its amazing benefits!

The Procedure, Explained

When you're young, your body produces a protein named collagen, which is what keeps your skin elastic and tight.

However, once you turn 25, your collagen production starts to decrease.

This, combined with lifestyle factors, causes your skin to start sagging and aging signs, like wrinkles and fine lines, to start appearing.

During a nonsurgical neck lift, a professional uses lasers to boost your production of collagen, which helps to tighten and rejuvenate the skin on your neck, under chin and jawline.

As mentioned before, this is quite a quick treatment: it usually takes 45 minutes or less to complete. Although you'll notice results from your first session, our advice is that you get treatments done every four to six weeks, depending on how severe your skin laxity is.

But before you even think about booking your first session, you probably want to know exactly what happens during those 45 minutes.

Before we get to the action, we want to make sure that a neck lift is the right procedure to achieve your desired results, so we'll always have an initial discussion with you.

Once everything is settled, and we decide to move forward, we use the Fotona Laser 4D treatment, which includes four steps:

1.Smooth® Mode

We start with an oral treatment, where we use a non-ablative laser on your inner cheeks and lips to increase collagen production. This first step, which targets the area between your lips and your chin, works almost like a filler, so you'll notice some more volume on the treated areas.

2.FRAC3® Laser Rejuvenation

During the second phase, we use a fractional laser that targets areas of your skin that are damaged and fixes deep skin imperfections like sunspots, noticeable veins, flushing, wrinkles, and fine lines.

3.PIANO® Mode

The third step of the Fontana 4D treatment focuses on tightening your skin. By quickly bulk heating your skin, we're able to boost your collagen synthesis, which promotes better skin elasticity.

  1. SupErficial® Mode

Finally, we perform a laser peel to remove any dead skin cells, eliminate the remaining surface imperfections and make sure the whole area looks smoother and healthier than before.

Other Treatment Options

The Fotona method might not be for everyone. Thankfully, there are other treatment nonsurgical options to lift and tighten the skin on your neck:

  • Ulthera, which uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production.
  • Sculptra fillers, which is a way of injecting lost collagen.
  • PDO threads, which use Polydioxanone threads.

Benefits of a Non-Surgical Neck Lift

By now, you know that a nonsurgical neck lift will quickly and efficiently eliminate any skin imperfections. So the most obvious benefit is that you'll look younger and fresher, and that will make you feel a lot more confident in your skin.

But there are even more benefits to this procedure.

Note: We'll be focusing on the benefits of the Fontana method, but most of them also apply to the other three treatment options we mentioned.

  1. It Doesn't Hurt

We've all heard that beauty hurts, but that's not always the case: during your nonsurgical neck lift, you won't feel any pain. At most, you'll feel some discomfort. This is, after all, a new and unusual experience for your skin.

This alone gives you a lot more peace of mind, doesn't it?

  1. It's a Lot More Cost-Efficient

Plastic surgery can be quite expensive. If you're on a tight budget, going for the nonsurgical method is the right thing to do, as prices are much lower (and the results aren't compromised).

  1. There's No Recovery Time

If you've been researching this procedure for a bit, you've probably read that you can even get it done during your lunch break from work.

Not only is this procedure fast, but you can just go back to your regular life once you're done. The only possible side effects of a nonsurgical neck lift are some swelling, redness and slight irritation, but even those disappear in a matter of one or two hours.

  1. It Doesn't Require Much Aftercare

Now that you know how minimal the side effects can be, it's easy to understand why you won't have to worry much about the aftercare. Moisturize the area and apply some SPF every day and you'll be all good!

  1. It's Not as Risky as a Surgical Neck Lift

Going under the knife always involves a certain level of risk, whether it's due to infections, anesthesia issues or other unexpected challenges. Even if it is a common surgery or if it's performed by top-tier surgeons. So, the fact that this alternative in non-invasive makes it automatically safer.

  1. The Results Are Natural-Looking and Long-Lasting

We've all heard about (and seen the results of) surgical cosmetic procedures that ended up looking very unnatural and that's something that keeps a lot of people from getting plastic surgery done.

Since this treatment isn't as aggressive on your skin and you won't have any scars afterward, the final results end up looking very natural.

Plus, they tend to last for one or two years. 45 minutes under the laser for such long-lasting benefits seem more than worth it to us!

Look Good, Feel Great!

Nowadays, there's still some stigma associated with beauty procedures, whether they're surgical or not.

For some reason, they're sometimes seen as shallow or even wrong. If this mindset is what's been preventing you from finally taking care of your saggy skin, it's time to change that!

After all, what's wrong with workings towards becoming the best version of yourself?

Taking care of your image and fixing things that bother you will do nothing but boost your self-esteem and trust us, that'll show in every aspect of your life.

If you want to know more about the nonsurgical neck lift, make sure to book a free consultation. We'll be more than happy to answer all your questions!

Your Comprehensive Guide to Smile Lines Correction

Smiling is part of human nature. Did you know that ultrasounds have shown that developing babies smile when they're in the womb? Or that smiling is contagious because we lose some control over our facial muscles when we see someone else's smile?

Given that smiling can boost your happiness, this is all good news. The bad news? At some point in our lives, we're all going to develop smile lines.

Fortunately, there are ways to both treat smile lines and prevent them from coming back or getting worse.

Read on to find out more about these pesky features and what you can do about them.

What Are Smile Lines?

Smile lines are the lines that extend vertically from the edges of the nose, curving around the sides of the mouth. The technical term for them is "nasolabial folds," which may be harder to say but is a little less misleading. Smile lines aren't directly caused by smiling, even though they do seem to fall right in the facial pockets that move and crease when we smile.

Instead, they develop as the fat pads in our cheeks shift around with age. This shifting is exacerbated by repetitive facial motions like smiling, frowning, and opening our mouths, but it's also made worse by several factors.

The biggest factor contributing to worsening smile lines is the loss of collagen or elasticity in the skin. We lose collagen as the result of things like overexposure to the sun, tobacco use, and the overconsumption of sugar.

Smile lines may also look worse when we don't have a good skincare routine, leaving our skin dehydrated. Without proper hydration, our skin looks less vibrant and smooth. This makes any wrinkles we may have look, well, a lot worse.

In some cases, facial features like smile lines are simply genetic. This means that even if you take good care of your body and skin, you may need some extra help to smooth out those lines.

How Can We Treat Smile Lines?

If you've already got smile lines that you want to get rid of, you're going to have to go straight for the treatment and use our preventative tips once the treatment is complete. Fortunately, there's no need to break out the scalpel and sutures for this process!

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are the perfect solution for someone who wants instantly younger-looking skin. The process is nonsurgical and, in some cases, reversible! The procedure is quick and easy and the recovery time is short, letting you get back to your day-to-day as soon as possible.

It's very common for patients to get hyaluronic acid fillers to treat their smile lines. Hyaluronic acid is something our skin naturally produces and it helps our skin to stay hydrated, but we lose a lot of it over time. Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible but they're also temporary, lasting about 6 to 18 months.

For patients who want instant, permanent results, we usually recommend bovine collagen fillers. Taken in different forms, bovine collagen has been shown to help with arthritis relief, bone strength, and improved skin. Of course, we use it in our fillers for improved skin, as it improves elasticity, enables hydration, and boosts collagen levels.

Nonsurgical Facelifts

For patients who want more than just their smile lines corrected, we usually recommend a nonsurgical facelift.

Nonsurgical facelifts also use dermal fillers, but with some added help. Botox may also be used to freeze the muscles that experience repetitive motion, causing wrinkles like smile lines and crows feet. In this case, the dermal fillers are still erasing those wrinkles while the botox is one of your prevention tools.

We also use threading, a technique that keeps your fillers in place. Fillers are dense, and over time can begin to collapse in response to gravity. Our facial threads hold onto your skin from the inside, acting as extra support for those fillers so they don't shift around or fall.

Alternatively, patients may go for the Fontana Laser Tight Sculpting procedure. During this procedure, existing collagen is heated and stimulated, resulting in a filler-free plumpness that will get rid of those smile lines in no time!

How Can We Prevent Smile Lines?

Once your treatment is complete, it's up to you to adopt a skincare and health routine that will keep your smile lines from coming back.

Peptides and Retinol

Use facial serums and moisturizers that are enriched with peptides and retinol. Both stimulate collagen and together, they can keep your skin looking fresh and young.

Peptides act as the building blocks of protein development in the skin. This process sends a signal to collagen to kick it into high gear while also fighting inflammation and protecting against sun damage.

Retinol speeds up cell turnover, which helps your skin fight against discoloration. It also works to keep your pores clear. While these additional effects of retinol won't fight wrinkles as collagen stimulation will, they're added benefits that will make your skin look and feel great!

SPF is a no-brainer, but people forget about it all the time! We all love a good tan, but we all loathe wrinkles. So what should we do?

Skip the fleeting natural tan and opt for bronzers and other lotions or makeup that will give you the look of a tan without the damage. If you're bad at remembering to put on sunscreen before you go out, use a daily moisturizer with SPF built into it. Look for products with at least SPF 30 for your face and neck.

Keep Smiling

Smiling is a natural response that keeps us looking and feeling happy. If you're worried about your smile lines, don't try to hide your smile from the world!

Instead, opt for treatment and prevention methods that will restore your skin to its formal youthful glow. Now that's something to smile about!

Botox can also transform how the brow sits, without undergoing cosmetic surgery. Botox will help brows sit uniformly along the brow bone and can help define and lift the shape of brows.

The Plasma Pen procedure is an advanced and non-invasive lift treatment. It firms

and lifts the skin with fast results that will improve within eight weeks. In essence, the plasma pen functions by using the voltage in the atmosphere between its tip and the normal gasses released from our skin to build a plasma charge. This then creates a little electrical arc and immediately contracts the eyebrow area. The tissues pull in and tighten, giving you a youthful and elevated eyebrow. As collagen starts to form, crusts develop and peel off. The result is tighter and smoother skin – which occurs within days. Laser hair loss

Laser hair loss treatment in Edmonton

Hair loss can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender. Reasons for hair loss include genetics, hormonal imbalance, vitamin deficiency or the shortening of the hair follicle’s life cycle. The innovative Smooth Mode from Fotona Er-Yag laser has shown significant results as a hair loss treatment.

Why do people lose hair?

We lose hair every day, it is normal. On average, we lose about 100 hair follicles from the scalp every day, which is 0.1% of our total hair. During its life cycle, a hair follicle goes through three defined phases: The anagen phase (the growing phase) that lasts 3-5 years, the Catagen phase (short transition phase) that lasts about 10 days and the Telogen phase when the hair falls out. For most healthy people about 90 percent of their hair follicles are in the Anagen phase.

Different laser, different results

The difference is similar to the difference between getting warm and getting burned. The laser hair removal delivers a strong pulse of energy to burn the dark hair follicles. Fotona Er-Yag laser works differently as it is not absorbed by the hair follicle colors, but by water in the scalp. Higher temperatures increase blood flow and help hair follicles grow faster and stronger.

How does laser hair loss treatment work?

Foton Laser delivers nourishment to the hair follicles and deeply stimulates the root of the hair at the cellular level. The boost of laser light revitalizes and enlivens the weakened hair follicles. Moreover, it stimulates growth factors, reversing the thinning process, and helps restore and extend your hair’s growth natural cycle.

What results should I expect from laser hair loss treatment?

The results are fuller scalp with stronger and thicker hair. Most of the clients start seeing results after the fourth session. However, it may vary considerably from patient to patient.

Does Laser work for all types of hair loss?

It is important to understand there are many causes of hair loss, and laser treatment is not a cure. For example, some cases of hair loss are directly linked to hormonal imbalance and autoimmune diseases. In this example, laser treatment will help reduce the hair loss and restore the life cycle for the follicles, however, it will not eradicate the cause of hair loss.

How many laser hair loss treatments do I need?

We recommend one session (usually take thirty min) every two weeks for a total of eight-sessions, followed up with one session every following month.

Can I combine laser hair restoration treatment with other treatments?

Yes, we recommend combining the laser restoration therapy with Rich-platelet Plasma (PRP) injection. We also recommend using some collagen products and multivitamins compounded, especially for this treatment.

after one session of hair restoration
after one session of hair restoration

How much does laser hair restoration treatment cost?

The price of four sessions of laser hair restoration is $600. If paid individually, the session will cost $200. Our ultimate hair restoration bundle is another option. This includes: one session of PRP injection + 15 min of red light therapy + four session of Fotona laser for $1200

Is laser hair restoration safe?

Yes, it is. The scalp is tender and tight for 24 hours after the treatment and it is recommended to avoid sun exposure and water for 24 hours after the treatment

Frustrated with fat pockets that won’t decrease with your gym routine and diet? We understand that it can be distressing, especially if you can’t reach your goal. But there is good news! Thanks to the latest weight-loss solution, you can lose weight by freezing your fat off.

CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared body shaping machine that freezes stubborn fat (cryolipolysis). We use carefully controlled plates to freeze the fat cells at sub-zero temperatures.

The temperature causes irreversible damage to the treated fat cells which are then "flushed" away by the body within few months," says Dr. Kamal Al Hallak, an Aesthetic consultant at Albany cosmetic and laser center. Here's everything to know about freezing your fat.

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved procedure that uses cryolipolysis (a controlled cooling process) to freeze excess fat deposits in the body. As the applicator freezes and destroys the fat, nerves, skin, and other tissues remain unharmed.

coolsculpting infographic
coolsculpting infographic

Why there are different applicators for CoolSculpting?

Different body areas have different anatomical shapes. Some areas are wide and curvy, some areas are narrow and flat. Different applicators are used for different areas of the body. For example, the cool-advantage and cool-advantage plus applicators come with three different contours (cool-fit advantage, cool-core advantage, and cool-Curve +). The ability to have a better fitting applicator cup and cooling procedure means shorter treatment time and better results.

What are the recommended number of treatments?

While most patients see visible results with one treatment, it’s not uncommon to require one to three treatments to achieve the best results. If you want greater fat reduction, you may need more than one treatment. You can repeat the process every three months (if necessary) until you feel you've achieved the best results.

Always speak to your doctor before going in for CoolSculpting to know if you're a good candidate.

How long is a CoolSculpting appointment?

It normally takes an hour to treat each section. However, we are one of the very few clinics in Edmonton that owns the updated machines with the new cool-advantage plus applicator. Therefore, the treatment time for each section is around 35 minutes.

Results and recovery

It takes about three months to experience complete results, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeon. But it depends on your body and how it reacts to the procedure. CoolScupting works by fat freezing (cryolipolysis), therefore it works gradually. You will see the first noticeable results after two weeks, and the max results are expected after two to three months.

coolsculpting results in Edmonton
coolsculpting results in Edmonton

CoolSculpting is effective at reducing and removing fat cells, but it doesn’t have any skin tightening results. We recommend to combine it with other laser treatments to attain the best results. We are the only center in Edmonton that owns a full portfolio of different body shaping and skin tightening machines that include Laser, RF, electromagnetic and cryo lipolysis.

You don't need to take time off from your daily activities after your appointment but may want to rest for a day if you feel resuming work might be stressful on your body.

Compared to traditional weight loss procedures, CoolSculpting eradicates fat cells. As stated by the ASPS, the targeted fat cells are lessened by 20%. Some patients will experience a 40% reduction, which is likely in smaller regions like the thighs and upper arms. The procedure offers lasting results, but it’s recommended you maintain an exercise and healthy eating routine.

What are the side effects of CoolSculpting?

You may feel cryolipolysis-induced numbness in the treatment area for a few hours. Bruising may be noticed due to pinching and tugging, which is part of the suction process. Prepare to feel sore for a few weeks after the procedure. Downtime experienced by CoolSculpting patients is minimal.

Other side effects include:

Swelling, redness, tenderness, tingling, stinging, muscle cramping, skin sensitivity, mild pain, and a pinching sensation.

How to care for skin after CoolSculpting

Dr. Kamal advises patients to wear compression garments like Spanx to minimize possible redness and swelling. He also recommends that patients return to normal activities post-treatment. Also, remember to stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water – this will help expel the frozen fat cells

What is the average cost of CoolSculpting?

In 2016, the average cost of a non-invasive treatment like CoolSculpting was about $1,500. The cost depends on the area you want to treat, how many areas you want treated and how many appointments you require for each treatment area. Remember, the bigger the target area, the higher the cost. Also, treating several areas can increase the cost. It’s best to consult with a board-certified aesthetician to create a treatment plan for you.

If you experience weight gain in the treated areas, you may need to come in for additional sessions. It is recommended that you continue with a healthy eating and exercise routine after your treatments to maintain the best results.

Final thoughts

This FDA-approved non-invasive treatment isn't a magic bullet. But a 2014 clinical trial advertised in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, proves that CoolSculpting offers impressive results. The procedure reduces about 25% subcutaneous fat in the target area.

However, if you go back to unhealthy habits after treatment, it can conceal the slimming effects. "I always ask my patients to observe a good lifestyle to maintain the results," says Dr. Kamal Alhallak, Ph.D.

under-eye wrinkles

Source: Albany Laser & Cosmetic Centre

Starting in the late twenties, most of the women get concerned about the under eyes wrinkles. The skin around the eye is thin and delicate. Therefore it ages faster than other facial areas. Most people rely on creams or oils to get a tighter, wrinkle-free skin under the eyes. Even though these topical preparations are expensive; however, their results are disappointing.

What is the difference between eye bags, darkness, and wrinkles

Having Eye wrinkles at an early age is considered a risk factor for eye bags. However, we see lots of clients complaining about eye wrinkles without having eye circles or bags. It is harder to treat eye wrinkles by itself without the eye bag. Moreover, we see some clients who have wrinkles and pigmentation around the eye. Therefore, Dr. Kamal (Pharmacist with Ph.D.) usually differentiate between three different types of under-eye fine wrinkles

  • Fine wrinkles alone
  • Wrinkles with pigmentation
  • Fine wrinkles with eye bags
  • Wrinkle with eye bags and dark circles

Treatments available for under-eye wrinkles

The treatment protocol depends on patient concerns. In other words, Dr. Kamal will design a personalized protocol to help to target your concern.

Under-eye fillers

Another synonym for the under-eye fillers is tear trough fillers. We usually recommend under-eye fillers when the client shows signs of losing volume in the orbital cavity. You can read more about this type of filler here

Under-eye Botox

We use Botox in some cases when the wrinkle is alone in young clients with dynamic lines, which appear with smiling. Usually, these lines are part of the crow feet and Botox will be good enough to correct them.

Fraxel Laser

We are the only laser center in Edmonton who offers laser for the ocular area. We use special intra-ocular shields to provide safety for the eye cornea and retina. We recommend using Fraxel laser with all other treatments. Moreover, Fraxel treatment helps with the droopy upper eye-lid and saggy skin under the eye.

How does Fraxel laser works

Fraxel is a color-blind, microscopic, fractional laser, so it uses water as a chromophore. It means that we can use it on all skin types. Fraxel is a microscopic laser that goes into your skin to stimulate the growth of elastin and collagen. In essence, it fades brown spots, smooths eye wrinkles, and scars that arise as a result of photo-aging. Contrary to fully ablative lasers, Fraxel is a fractional skin resurfacing procedure, which targets a section of the skin simultaneously. Also, the Fraxel laser treatment works by rejuvenating the skin from inside.

Is laser safe for the eye?

While administering the Fraxel laser treatment on patients, intra-ocular corneal eye shields are used to protect the eyes from laser rays.

Intra-ocular corneal eye shields are eye-shaped shields made of surgical grade stainless steel. They come in different sizes and are used to protect the patient's eyes during laser treatments around the eye region.

Is Fraxel laser safe after fillers?

We recommend to space fillers injection and Fraxel laser treatment by at least three months. Therefore, we advise our client to do Fraxel laser first, followed by Fillers or Botox injections.

To read more about Fraxel before and aftercare, downtime, and possible side effects, please click here

What does the fine wrinkle treatment look like?

To treat fine eye wrinkles using the Fraxel laser treatment, the patient usually takes about three rounds of the treatment.

During the treatment, the doctor administers a slight dose of anesthetic to the patient while also numbing the area of treatment.

The entire procedure lasts for 20 to 30 minutes, after which the patient can go home. After the treatment, the patient might experience bruising and slight swelling. These side effects would go down after a few days.

Oxygen Facial

 OXYGEN FACIAL in Edmonton

Oxygen facials are very popular now. Clearly, stars like the Kardashians and Madonna swear by these facials. But, what’s the deal with this procedure? Let's find out...

Oxygen facials fight visible signs of aging linked to poor transportation of oxygen. This is usually from subcutaneous capillaries to the surface of the skin. The facial deals with this deficiency by delivering highly concentrated oxygen molecules directly to the epidermis.

oxygen facial before and after
oxygen facial before and after

In essence, oxygen facial is the infusion of oxygen into the skin. This is to beautify the skin and solve many skin related issues. It is not an intrusive process. It is simply a cream and light treatment to obtain a younger, brighter, and glowing skin. This kind of facials exfoliates and easily rejuvenates skin texture.

How Does the Treatment Work?

For this kind of facials, a stream of high-pressurized oxygen works. This is laden with botanical, vitamin, mineral, and nutrient extracts.

First, a light, emanating from a stick-like machine infuses oxygen into the skin. This stick-like machine is then rotated all over your face. This has a soothing and calming effect on your face. This is the most important step in the whole process.

The machine sprays a serum on your skin. Usually, this contains hyaluronic acid, minerals, vitamins, and loads of antioxidants. All these tighten the skin, making it radiant. It also eliminates wrinkles and fine lines.

Next, your doctor will massage your skin with lotions and creams. It helps to nourish your skin and seal it. In view of this, the effects of the treatment last longer. Special oxygen-infused lotions massages, cleanses, scrubs and exfoliates your skin.

Your doctor will put these nutrients on the face and neck. The oxygen then absorbs the moisturizing agents into the skin. And the after effect is a smoother, better glow.

Benefits of an Oxygen Facial

The benefits of oxygen facials are said to be numerous. They range from thorough pore cleansing to lighten hyperpigmentation.

The use of oxygen use helps strengthen the skin’s elasticity and eliminate acne-causing bacteria. It will also reduce fine lines and wrinkles. What’s more? Oxygen facials even out the skin and diminish pores.

Lots of people who experience the non-surgical oxygen facial treatment rave about it. They notice an immediate change in their appearance. Effects of oxygen facials last about two days. For best results, a series of six treatments is recommended. And this is done along with a six-week timeframe, followed by monthly visits for touch-ups.

Detoxifies the Skin

The oxygen facial helps the skin make the best use of oxygen nutrients in it. This increases the detoxification process of your skin. It helps negate the effects of pollution. Also, it helps in the repair and rebuilding of the skin cells.

Speeds up Cell Turnover

Skin cells have a short lifetime; they die, and new cells replace them. But what helps your cells to regenerate? Oxygen! It enhances the rate at which new cells grow, which, in the end, helps heal acne scars. The oxygen facial gives an extra dose of oxygen to your skin cells. In essence, this aids faster cell turnover.

No Painful Side Effects

This process is very gentle on the skin and doesn’t irritate the skin. Compared to other facials, redness, swelling, stinging, or a burning sensation doesn’t occur. It is recommendable for those who have sensitive skin. Further, those who do not like chemical beauty treatments can use it.

Fast Recovery Time

One of the noticeable benefits is that one can apply lotion or makeup to their skin immediately. While most facials require several hours of waiting before applying lotions, the oxygen facial doesn’t.

Moisturizes Your Skin

Very day exposure to the sun, dust, and pollution deprive your skin of its natural moisture content. This makes the skin extremely dry and lifeless. If you have dry skin, these issues will make your skin even worse. The oxygen facial moisturizes your skin deeply and restores its pH balance. It also protects it from sun damage.

Treats Uneven Skin Tone

The serum used for oxygen facial is high in hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamins, and botanical extracts. All these treat uneven skin tone and make your face look healthier.

Collagen Infusion

The oxygen combined with the vitamins that are infused into the skin is healthy. It is also beneficial and promotes the presence of collagen. It also affects cells which provide a more youthful look. For those whose skin is stained by tobacco use, there is a solution. The benefits come with lighter, younger-looking skin.

Are There Any Side Effects of Oxygen Facials?

Although no facials are permanent, the effects of this kind do not last as long as others. According to Inner Fit, this means that you will have to undergo the treatments more often to see its effects.

When done often, toxic radicals will be released into the skin, inducing premature aging. This means overdoing it means more wrinkles and lines with time. Other signs of premature aging that counteracts the effect of the facial is also included.

The FDA has yet to endorse oxygen facials, and there is no licensing required for its use. It is thus very crucial that you find a skilled and practitioner to help you with this facial. There have been injuries, discomfort, and other issues linked with the improper use of the oxygen facial.

What's the Cost?

As with lots of skin treatments, its effects are only temporary. To maintain clear, glowing skin, we recommend that a person get treatments once a week. Let it go on for the first six weeks, and then return each month for a regular checkup treatment.

A treatment might typically cost is$150  per visit. With repeated treatments compulsory, oxygen facials are expensive. If you combine the Oxygen Facial with other treatment, you can save $50

It is now clear why everyone in the beauty world thinks the oxygen facial is the perfect facial. It might hurt your pocket but you’d love it in the end.

BellaFill in Edmonton

Bellafill is a long-lasting filler for wrinkles, skin folds, acne, and facial scars in both women and men. It uses a natural method to stimulate collagen, thus giving people a more youthful appearance. Bellafill is approved by the FDA and is usually injected by a licensed practitioner. Bellafill unique is that it is a long term filler and can last five to nine years, unlike many temporary dermal fillers.

What does Bellafill contain?

Bellafill is a combination of microsphere enhanced bovine collagen and local anesthetic lidocaine. These microspheres are produced from polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) by both FDA and USDA guidelines. It is very different from the common Botox injections and other HA dermal fillers. Bellafill is the most studied dermal filler on the market. Also, it has proven itself to be safe and effective.

How does Bellafill work?

Dr. Kamal Alhallak, Ph.D., injects Bellafil deep into the skin where the body's collagen surrounds the microspheres. About a month before undergoing this treatment, you will need to undergo an allergy skin test, this test will help confirm how you react to collagen.

What are the benefits of Bellafill?

Bellafill is a special permanent dermal filler, which offers a long-lasting solution to wrinkles and lasts up to five years. Unlike other products made from natural or synthetic materials, the body doesn't absorb Bellafill. This is because it’s made from a collagen microsphere. The benefits of Bellafill include:

  • Corrects nasolabial folds, facial scars, acne, wrinkles, smile lines, and so on.
  • It offers immediate results.
  • Results can last up to five years
  • Encourages the renewal of the body’s collagen

Is Bellafill for you?

While this dermal filler helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, it might not be the best treatment for you. Do not use Bellafill if you:

  • Test positive to the Bellafill allergy skin test
  • Have a history of severe allergies and hypersensitivity
  • Have an allergy to the previous bovine collagen product
  • Have excessive or thick scars
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (although studies have not been done on nursing mothers and pregnant women).

Are there any side effects?

Like other injectables, you may feel mild swelling and redness at the injection site. Other side effects include swelling, itching, and pain, redness after 48 hours and rare side effects include lumps and granulomas. We do not inject Bellafill in sites with sores, pimples, cysts, or infection. In a situation like this, you should postpone the injection until you heal completely.

The allergy test

Since Bellafill has bovine collagen, we test every potential Bellafill clients for allergies. This test is performed by injecting a small amount of collagen into the dermal level of the skin. We will watch for the skin reactions to know if a patient is a candidate for the fillers or not.

The first approved uses for it in the United States date back to 1989 when it was used for uncontrollable muscle spasms. In 2002, it was approved for cosmetic use on facial muscles to correct “frown lines” (those little lines between your eyebrows that make you look angry or tired). Now, it is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. The effect of botulinum toxin is to cause calculated muscle weakness to reduce some upper face wrinkles. It can be used for crow’s feet, smoker’s lines around the mouth, and marionette lines at the corner of the lips.

This injection is now used for medical conditions aside from muscle spasms. It’s effective against severe underarm sweating and some other “off label” uses that have become an accepted practice but aren’t necessarily approved.

“Cosmetic Botox is made from botulinum toxin type A,” said Dr. Kamal Alhallak. “bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species produce this protein, the pharmaceutical grade of this toxin is highly purified and approved for sub-dermal injection"

“The Cosmetic use of neurotoxin has proven to be very safe and effective for almost everyone. At Albany Laser and Cosmetic Center, it’s easily one of our most popular treatments to rejuvenate one’s face and to look younger.”

What to Know:

It’s important to know a few things:

  1. it is not a permanent treatment. The effects wear off over time, and a new round of injections will be needed.
  2. It’s not a filler and can't be used to plump up the skin (like Juvederm),
  3. it can be injected into the upper face, whereas fillers are more appropriate for other areas.
  4. It helps only to correct the dynamic lines, which is the one we see when making facial expressions. However, it has little effect on static deep wrinkles (permanent wrinkles).
  5. It's not used to paralyze the muscle completely, as this will give you a frozen face. it is injected strategically to clam down unintended facial expressions and to prevent and correct some wrinkles.

Who can’t use Botox?

While it's safe for nearly everyone, there are some people we wouldn't recommend it to.

Tell your doctor or physician's assistant if you have:

  1. Allergic to the active ingredient
  2. Skin infection in the area that’s being worked on
  3. ALS, Lambert-Eaton syndrome or other diseases that affect your muscles or nerves
  4. Breathing problems, including asthma or COPD
  5. Droopy eyelids or weakness in forehead muscles

“It only takes about 10 minutes for the Botox injections,” Dr. Alhallak said. “Maximum effect takes about two weeks, so I always tell my patients to plan if they have an event that they want to look their best for.”

As a Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Alhallak pays special attention to the cases where it can have the maximum effect.

Is it painful?

It’s not really. It’s a simple injection. The area is often numbed, either with a topical anesthetic or with an ice pack. After the anesthetic wears off, there might be some slight discomfort, but it’s usually very mild and goes away in a few hours.

What to expect

Before the injection

Topical numbing creams, cooling the injection sites, and/or vibrations can be applied to reduce the injection discomfort.

During the injection

Different healthcare practitioners are authorized to perform cosmetic injections (physicians, pharmacists, and nurses). The injector uses a thin needle to deliver the medication to the subdermal layer of the skin. The treatment requires multiple injections to cover some large muscles in the upper face such as the forehead and frown lines

After the injection

Take it easy for a couple of hours after the injections. Don't rub the area or take a hot shower after your appointment.

It can take up to three days for the treatment to be noticeable, however, it takes two weeks to see the maximum results. The results last between four to six months with recommended maintenance appointments twice a year.

What are the side effects?

For the most part, the side effects are minor and rare, but some have been reported.

  • Injection site pain
  • Slight swelling
  • Rash
  • Asthma
  • Dizziness and fainting
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Neck pain

If you’ve had an injection and you’re having a hard time breathing or notice a significant rash has developed, you need to seek medical attention immediately. Other side effects such as drooping eyelids are the results of improper injection techniques in the treated areas.

Does Botox make my face numb?

No. It shouldn’t as it is not an anesthetic. If does paralyze the muscles, but it shouldn’t result in numbness. If the numbness persists for a couple of days, you should call your physician.

How long does Botox last?

In most cases, it lasts three to four months, but that can be affected by several factors. Diet, smoking, age, how well you care for your skin, and how much sun exposure you get can all affect how long it lasts. in general, it lasts for 3-6 months. The effect of it last longer as we age, and less as we keep doing it.

what would I expect for the cost?

We charge $10 per units, therefore the price varies according to the area. Please read this post about the average cost

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport

Both of the treatments are very similar and work towards skin rejuvenation. However, there are some differences between Botox and DysportRead more about it here

Are Filler and Botox the same?

No, In summary, Botox freezes muscles to soften wrinkles caused by facial movement while fillers use hyaluronic acid and other substances to plump areas with lost volume.

Can I combine Botox with Juvederm?

Yes, we can combine it with Dermal Fillers at the same appointment, especially if the wrinkles are deep. Some deep wrinkles occur if you don't treat the frown lines on time. As a result, they become pronounced and deep. So you may need both injections to correct them. Dr. Alhallak combines Fillers and it during skin tightening and wrinkle reduction treatments.

Botox safety

“The most important factor in receiving safe and effective injections is to choose the right practitioner,” said Kamal Alhallak. “Be certain that the person that you get your injections from has experience and training. This is something you want to have done under the guidance of an experienced doctor.”

Be sure to tell your practitioner about any illnesses you have, any medications or herbal remedies you take, and even if you use illicit drugs. You don’t want to find out that your herbal pills are causing you issues with your Botox.

Most importantly, tell your practitioner everything, even if you think it might be minor. Drugs and even vitamins and minerals interact in ways that you might not expect.

If you notice any side effects, contact your practitioner right away. Let them know so that they can help you decide if there’s anything you need to do.

Avoid taking ASA or NSAID such as Ibuprofen to reduce the risk of bruising. Other post-treatment recommendations include staying upright for a couple of hours, applying pressure, and icing the area to help with swelling and bruising.

Is it safe to go to a Botox party

We strongly advise not getting it done at a Botox party. It is not safe to get any type of injection outside a professional medical setting. Moreover, no one will take your medical history or keep records. The environment is not suitable or approved to perform such a delicate cosmetic injection. Furthermore, This kind of practice is illegal and not covered by any practice insurance. It is common to see that the medication used at these parties is diluted (similar to getting cheap watered-drink in a bar). There is no way to know how watered down the solution is and what is the actual number of units you are getting.

Common areas for Botox

  • Forehead/Frown lines: These are lines or creases developed on the forehead. These lines can start small and deepen over time. We call these lines "timelines." it helps softness forehead lines or prevent deep lines from forming.
  • Smile lines: Smile lines or crow’s feet are fine or deeps lines that we see when we smile. Botulinum toxin injection or Dysport softens muscles around your eyes and mouth.

Botox treatment for lazy eye?

Did you know Botox was originally used for children with lazy eyes? Long before we used it for wrinkles and everything else, it was used safely and effectively for this problem.  The trouble is that it doesn't last long and re-injections are necessary.  Results can be variable and effects can be variable as it takes effect and wears off.  As an eye surgeon, I recommend definitive treatment with eye muscle surgery by a qualified professional to see if it is right for you.

What is a lazy eye?

Lazy eye is a vision development disorder in which an eye fails to achieve normal visual acuity, even with prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses. Amblyopia typically begins during infancy and early childhood. In most cases, only one eye is affected. But in some cases, amblyopia can occur in both eyes. If a lazy eye is detected early in life and promptly treated, reduced vision can be avoided. But the untreated lazy eye can cause permanent loss of vision in the affected eye. It's estimated that about 2 to 3 percent of the U.S. population has some degree of amblyopia.
